» The human body can last for roughly 30 days without food, the human condition can sustain itself for about three days without water, but no human alive can survive for more that 30 seconds WITHOUT HOPE, because without hope we truly have nothing «
Those are the words of remarkable SEAN SWARNER: first cancer survivor to complete 7 summits, highest peaks of each continent.
Sean was diagnosed with two completely different types of cancer, once at the age of 13 (Hodgkin’s Disease) and again at the age of 16 (Askin’s Sarcoma).
He was given just two weeks to live in 1990 and is believed to be the only person in the world to ever have been diagnosed with both these deadly cancers.
He astounded medical community when he survived both these brutal diseases.
Sean once said in Radio Show that he would have been more likely to win the lottery four or five times than to have survived both these cancers.
He realized that after defeating cancer twice,
no challenge would ever be too great or any peak
Despite the fact he has only one fully functioning lung (due to the removal of a golf ball-sized tumor found with the Askin’s diagnoses) he reached the summit of the worlds highest mountain – Mount Everest which challenges its climbers with deadly conditions like avalanches, snowstorms and dramatic loss of oxygen.
He founded non-profit organization The Cancer Climber Association dedicated to motivating those living with cancer.
He also wrote a book Keep Climbing: How I Beat Cancer and Reached the Top of the World which recounts his story and journey from the depths of his near death experience to the peaks he climbed to reach the top of the world 17 years later.
Sean continues to beat the odds and test his own personal endurance.
He is motivational speaker to universities, corporations and other groups around the world and he shares his mission of hope and inspiration.
Sean’s story is a lesson for all of us:
YOU SHOULD NEVER GIVE UP ON THE WAY TO YOUR DREAMS
